Safe & Fun Pet-Friendly Activities to Enjoy This Winter
Winter doesn’t have to mean less quality time with your fur kids. It can actually be one of the most enriching seasons to slow down, bundle up, and create meaningful moments together. There are plenty of safe, fun, and pet-friendly activities you can enjoy all winter long; below are some of our favorites!
Explore Winter Markets (Together!)
Many winter and artisan markets are dog-friendly, especially those that are outdoors. These are a great way to get your pet socialized while you browse local goods and enjoy the festive atmosphere. Just be sure to stay mindful of crowded areas, keep your pet leashed, and watch for dropped food underfoot.
Take Advantage of Longer Walks in Cooler Weather
Colder temperatures can actually be ideal for longer walks, especially for dogs who overheat easily in warmer months. Winter walks offer mental stimulation, fresh air, and a change of scenery.
Be sure to protect paws from ice, salt, and extreme cold with booties as needed (if tolerated) and adjust walk length based on your pet’s breed, coat, and comfort level.
Include Them in Seasonal Traditions
Pets are family, and winter is the season for traditions, so why not include your fur kids?
Some fun ideas from our Woof Pack include seasonal advent treat calendars, hanging stockings for the pets, including your fur family in holiday cards, or making pet-friendly versions of your favorite festive meals. Our pets are always happy to be where we are, and including them in little traditions can make for lifelong memories!
Embrace Cozy Time Indoors
When the weather gets colder, some of the best moments happen indoors. Curl up by the fire, set up a cozy blanket nook, or enjoy a quiet evening of brushing, massage, or gentle play.

Indoor enrichment, like puzzle toys, scent games, or training refreshers, keeps your pet mentally engaged while strengthening your bond. Hide treats or favorite toys around the house to engage their natural foraging instincts; this can be a great way to provide stimulation when outdoor time is limited.
Enjoy Smaller Crowds on Winter Adventures
People are often indoors more when the weather is colder. This can make winter the perfect time to check out usually crowded spots, and smaller crowds can provide some relief for pawrents of reactive dogs. Snowy hikes, quiet beach walks, or peaceful park visits can feel magical in winter when crowds thin out. Always prioritize safety: dress appropriately, bring fresh water, and keep outings short if conditions are harsh.
