Oral hygiene is a critical part of keeping our pets healthy! Unhealthy teeth and gums can lead to significant pain and expensive extractions. Read on for our top to-dos to keep your pet’s pearly whites clean and healthy!
Establish a routine: Getting into a routine can help with consistency and allow your pet to become accustomed to having their teeth brushed!
Use ‘Shaping’: Shaping is done by breaking a goal behavior down into micro steps to eventually achieve an end goal! Having fingers/toothbrushes/cloths in their mouth can be stressful for some pets, and shaping can help your pet become accustomed to it in order to tolerate having their teeth cleaned. Watch this example of using shaping to brush your pet’s teeth!
Use a species-appropriate toothpaste: Or create your own natural option! Mix a 1:1 ratio of baking soda and coconut oil, and add fresh mint and/or parsley for fresh breath!
Touch/Massage your pets teeth and gums: Touching and/or massaging your pets teeth and gums can help them get used to the sensation of having their mouths touched prior to introducing a toothbrush. For this, you can use a natural fiber washcloth, soft bristled tooth brush or finger tip fabric tooth brush.
Reduce the Hassle! Tooth-safe chews are another helpful way to support healthy teeth by offering tartar control through gnawing. Supervised raw meaty bones are what we give our fur family on a regular basis. These options from integrative vet, Dr. Judy Morgan, are other great natural options.
Reduce simple carbs and sugars! Read your labels on treats and pet food: Facultative carnivores (dogs) and obligate carnivores (cats) need no simple carbohydrates like corn which is often used as filler in the pet food industry. Limited-ingredient, clean high-protein for species-specific nutrition is best to support healthy teeth and your dog or cat’s whole body!
We were told our 5 year old Aussie had mild osteoarthritis and the vet wanted to put her on Carprofen as needed. She only limped after walks and I didn't want her on a prescription drug with all the side effects so I started researching. She was already on cosequin, but it wasn't really helping. I found this and she's now been on it about 6 weeks plus one cosequin a day (down from two) and she literally runs on her walks now. I'm sold on this and will continue to use it for her. Highly recommend.
The Woof Creek Salmon + Cold Pressed Hemp Seed Oil has been amazing for my dogs. They love the taste and I love knowing they are getting clean omega rich nutrition with every serving. Their coats are softer, shinier, and healthier and they have more energy overall. The glass bottle is a big plus because it keeps the oil fresh, no toxic plastics, and is eco friendly. This has quickly become a staple in our routine
Allie, thank you so much for your review and for the amazing picture of your pups!! And wonderful to hear that you are seeing results! So glad to be a holistic resource for your fur fam :)
I purchased all natural flea & tick collars a few times for my dogs that claim to last 8 months...nope. After 3 weeks my dogs had ticks on them. Not too impressed. I saw the ad for this product and decided to try it. I am now on can #2 and we haven't found a single tick. My dogs don't hate the flavor which is a bonus! I'll continue purchasing this product until it stops working...which is hopefully not going to happen.
So glad your pups are enjoying the pest-free life with the Flea + Tick Defense! Thanks for giving our product a try!
I live smack dab in Lyme and Alpha Gal territory. My pups have used no RX Flea & tick products for years, I use this Woof Creek powder along with a certain tea (leaves) mixed in their food. I have literally not seen a tick or flea on this dog or my previous pup. All dogs are/were herding dogs who love to hike miles and miles. Try it and you'll never go back!
Deborah, so glad to hear our Flea + Tick Defense is helping to keep all the pests away from your pups! Thanks for going the natural route!
